Welcome back to school! We still have so much to do before State Testing in June (STAR) and the end of the school year. I am very grateful that we have such hard working Lions at Mason! Mason is one of thirteen San Diego Unified schools have been named to the California Business for Education Excellence (CBEE) 2009 Honor Roll. The Honor Roll includes public elementary, middle and high schools that have been recognized by California’s business community for demonstrating consistent high student academic achievement and making significant progress toward closing achievement gaps among all students. Stop in the office and check out our banner!
Remember you are your child’s first teacher. Our Character Traits can be found on the Mason website and in the school calendar. When reinforced at home or in the community, these attitudes become second nature for our children. It is vital that Lions focus on developing positive attitudes toward people, the environment, the world, and learning. As Gandhi said, “we must be the change that we wish to see in the world.”
We hope that you will continue to participate in the fun activities that support our Lions. Join us at Fuddruckers on February 18 any time between 12:30 and 9 p.m. and Mason will get a percentage of the proceeds. Also, March 6 will be our Mason clean up day. It will be from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and all families and friends are encouraged to help. Finally, mark your calendar for April 6th because we will participate in the “Taste of Mira Mesa” fundraiser and (by then) you will want a night out during Spring Break. Tickets for parents will be $25 and will cover food from several local vendors and a movie that evening for our Lions. Look for more information because Mason will receive $15 from each ticket!
Lastly, I want to remind you that vacations should be taken when school is out of session. Attendance is critical to student success! We really do not have very many days left to teach our Lions all that they need to know! We will be out of school February 12, February 15th and March 29 through April 19th. Please be sure that our Lions attend school each day on time. We can not teach them if they are not here!
