Principal Corner December Print E-mail
Parents and families are the first and most important teachers. Educational research has made it clear that parents who are actively involved in their children's learning at home help their children become more successful learners both in and out of school. We appreciate your continued support!

I would like to thank everyone who attended the International Potluck. It was a huge success and the show was adorable! Parent conferences were well attended and informative. Now, we are really excited about the book fair which is scheduled for December 7th-11th. Join us as there will be many books for our children to view and purchase! Remember that books make wonderful gifts. Please don’t miss this important event!

School will be closed from December 21st to January 18th. We will not offering intersession this year due to budget constraints. However, students are still expected to read and practice their number facts. Encourage your children to participate in learning activities when school is not in session. Here are some suggestions:

  • Encourage reading. Reserve a time for Family Reading. During this time, everyone reads.
  • Read with your child by taking roles in stories and acting out dramatic poems.
  • Have your children select pictures from magazines and newspapers, and put them together to tell a story.
  • Ask your children to number the pictures--1, 2, 3, etc. First, ask them to tell the story with the pictures in numerical order. For variety, have your children rearrange the pictures and tell a new story using this different arrangement. Older children can write the story on paper or in a book format.
  • Have your child keep a journal of their vacation.
  • Use the sale ads to shop. Help your child make a shopping list and estimate the total cost of their items.
  • For older children, you can have them figure out the sales tax and/or the percent of discount.
  • Use a deck of cards to practice math facts.

Another way to help our children meet/exceed grade level standards is to make sure that they are in school when they are not sick! We can not teach our children if they are not in school. So, PLEASE… plan vacations/trips during the declared breaks. LIONS make attendance a daily Habit!

Thank you and I wish all members of the Mason family a very happy and joyous holiday season!
